Sangye-Menla Project
Sangye-Menla is a charitable organization in Chandigarh, India (U.T.) that provides assistance to Tibetan refugees and other Himalayan people who come to Chandigarh for medical care and hospitalization. Sangye-Menla provides a hostel for patients to stay while they are in Chandigarh, which has many hospitals and medical specialists.
The trained volunteer staff at Sangye-Menla helps patients navigate through a very complex medical system. The staff serves as translators, as many of the patients are from Tibet and do not speak Hindi. Sangye-Menla has developed a respectful networking system within the medical community in Chandigarh. This trusted collaboration allows the patients to receive quality health care.
Sangye-Menla provides patients with financial assistance for treatment and medications for the very poor and needy patients whenever possible. The staff will go to doctor visits and hospitals with the patients. They also provide health education to prevent the spread of Hepatitis, TB & HIV/AIDS.
The hostel provides a place for people to stay while receiving out-patient care, as well as post hospitalization recovery. There has been an overwhelming demand for services at Sangye-Menla. At the present time, the hostel does not have enough rooms to meet the demanding patient needs. There is an urgent need for more hostel rooms.
Project: Proposal to build a two-level building (30ft X 40ft) which will house a kitchen and 8 guest rooms and restrooms. This will enable Sangye-Menla to provide their valuable services to more people who are in need of medical care. They do not want to turn anyone away!
Cost of Project: $14,500.00
