Menri Dairy Farm Projects
The Menri Dairy Farm is a active dairy farm in Dolanji, India (Northern India, HP). It supplies nutritious milk to a community of Tibetan Refugees. The cows provides nutritional milk value to the monks of the Menri Monastery, the children of the Bon Children's Welfare Center (300+boys), Redna Menling Nunnery (150+ girls) and the Tibetan Refugee Settlement Area.
Sangye is a monk at Menri Monastery. He oversees & manages the cow/calf barn on Medicine Mountain, Dolanji, India. He loves all living beings with a wide open heart. The calves stay with their moms after birth. Sangye says, "Happy moms make happy, healthy milk". The male calves are used to work in the fields. Aged male/female cows are allowed to live out their lives naturally in a grazing field as they are compassionately cared for with gratitude for the service they have provided.
The calves at Menri Dairy Farm are not separated from their moms after birth. The baby calves are allowed to be with their mothers and to nurse as nature intended. Happy Moms equals Happy Healthy Milk!! The females grow up to produce milk and the males are put to useful work. Cows are not killed in India.
The first four projects are listed in the priority of need....the water holding tank needs to be in place to provide irrigation for the pasture land. The pasture land needs the support of the retaining walls to sustain the pasture land from erosion. When the water and pasture land are secure...then everything is in place for the new home of five Holstein cows which will provide two servings of milk a day for the children.
