We are waiting for a minor border dispute to be settled before the repair to the stairs can begin. We wish for a swift resolution to the border issue so that the work can begin!!
Our present project for the children is one of an urgent safety issue. The children have many outside stairs they must climb, up and down, numerous times a day to & from their hostel/dormitory living quarters. The stairs elevate to about three stories. Like all children, they are rambunctious and don’t always pay careful attention to safety. The stairs are made of concrete with metal ties and are in dire need of replacement. The metal ties are loose or broken and there are holes in the concrete where the concrete and metal meet. This situation is a devastating accident waiting to happen. The potential for tripping and tumbling down is high for children and adults alike. The stairs are a high traffic area leading from one end of the monastery, to the boys hostel and then to the entrance of the Tibetan Settlement Area where the children's school is.
